Warts, Cysts & Skin Growths in Fort Lauderdale

A rough bump, tender lump, or changing growth deserves a clear answer. We evaluate warts, cysts, and other skin growths before discussing treatment, removal, or monitoring.

That Fits Your Care

Know what you’re treating.

Many skin growths are benign, but the right treatment starts with identifying the spot. We ask how it has changed, whether it hurts or bleeds, and what you have tried at home.

Your visit may lead to reassurance, a treatment plan, or a biopsy when the diagnosis is uncertain. If removal is appropriate, we explain the procedure, possible scarring, and the care needed afterward.

Common Concerns & Symptoms

Warts on a finger and eyelid
Warts: clinical examples

Warts

Warts are caused by a virus and often form rough bumps on the hands or feet. They may spread, catch on clothing, or become uncomfortable when walking.

Treatment depends on the location, number of warts, and prior response. Freezing or other targeted treatments may require repeat visits.

Epidermal inclusion cyst on the back of the neck
Cyst: clinical example

Cysts

An epidermoid cyst is a slow-growing lump beneath the skin that may have a small central opening. It can become swollen, tender, or release material.

A quiet cyst may be observed. Inflammation may need treatment first; removing the cyst wall can reduce the chance of recurrence.

Other skin growths

Skin tags and seborrheic keratoses are common benign growths. However, an unfamiliar, changing, or bleeding spot should be examined before you assume it is harmless.

Depending on the diagnosis and your symptoms, the next step may be monitoring, removal, or a biopsy.

Avoid squeezing a cyst, cutting off a growth, or applying wart remover to a spot you have not identified. Arrange an evaluation for rapid growth, bleeding, or a sore that does not heal.

Explore Treatment Options

Select an option to see what you may discuss with your dermatologist.

Treatment for confirmed warts

Your dermatologist considers the site, discomfort, spread, and any treatment you have already used.

Discuss Your Care
  • Cryotherapy freezes the wart with liquid nitrogen; more than one session may be needed.
  • A topical treatment, such as salicylic acid, may be recommended for suitable sites.
  • Persistent warts may need another office treatment or a reassessment of the diagnosis.

The team explains expected tenderness or blistering and how to care for the area. Not every home treatment is suitable for every patient.

Manage inflammation, then discuss removal

Treatment depends on whether the cyst is quiet, inflamed, draining, or repeatedly bothersome.

Discuss Your Care
  • Observation may be reasonable for a small, painless cyst.
  • An inflamed cyst may need medication, an injection, or drainage, depending on the findings.
  • Surgical removal of the cyst and its wall may be discussed when appropriate.

Drainage can relieve symptoms but may not prevent recurrence. Removal leaves a wound and may leave a scar; timing matters when the area is inflamed.

Choose care after an examination

We first distinguish a benign growth from a spot that needs further testing.

Discuss Your Care
  • A confirmed harmless growth may be left alone if it is not bothering you.
  • Snip, shave, freezing, or another removal method may suit certain benign growths.
  • A suspicious or uncertain spot may need a skin biopsy rather than cosmetic removal.

We discuss expected healing and fees before treatment. Removal for appearance alone may be considered cosmetic.

Your care is individualized. Suitability and availability are discussed at your visit; some treatments may require coordinated specialist care.

What to Expect at Your Visit

Show us what changed

Tell us when the spot appeared, whether it grows, hurts, bleeds, or drains, and whether you have tried a home treatment. Bring your medication list.

Get an explanation

We examine the area and discuss the likely diagnosis. If testing is needed, we explain the biopsy and how you will receive the results.

Plan treatment and aftercare

If a procedure is recommended, we review timing, expected healing, possible scarring, and follow-up. Some treatments may need a separate appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a growth be removed at the first visit?

Sometimes, but examination comes first. The diagnosis, procedure, available appointment time, and insurance requirements may affect timing. A suspicious spot may need a biopsy before a treatment plan can be finalized.

How many wart treatments will I need?

There is no single number that fits every wart. Size, location, and your immune response affect treatment. Warts may need repeat sessions and can recur. Your dermatologist will review progress and discuss another approach if needed.

Can I squeeze or drain a cyst at home?

Avoid squeezing or puncturing it. This can worsen inflammation, cause infection, and leave a scar. Contact the office if a lump becomes painful, enlarges, or drains. Examination helps determine whether it is a cyst and what treatment is needed.

Does every growth need a biopsy?

No. Some growths have a typical benign appearance. A biopsy may be recommended if the diagnosis is uncertain, the spot has concerning features, or it does not respond as expected. The tissue is examined in a laboratory.

Will removal leave a scar or come back?

Removal can leave a scar, and some growths can recur. Warts may return even after treatment. A cyst may recur if its wall remains after drainage. We discuss these possibilities and appropriate aftercare before a procedure.

Is removal covered by insurance?

Coverage depends on your plan and medical necessity. Removal for symptoms or a concerning diagnosis may be handled differently from removal for appearance alone. Ask the office about the expected fees and check your benefits before treatment.

Get your wart, cyst, or growth checked.

Whether a spot is uncomfortable, changing, or simply unfamiliar, an examination can help you understand your options. Schedule a visit to discuss what it is, whether treatment is needed, and what to expect afterward.
